A six week wellness series that will explore tools for living a more balanced, healthy life with THE WOMEN’S DRUM CENTER.
About this Event
There is no doubt that we are living through an unprecedented experience. None of us could’ve imagined the challenges that would confront us and the adjustments we have been forced to make in our daily lives.
As caring people, many of us have felt stretched to our limits; coping with the coronavirus, societal inequities, school closures, working from home, and the uncertainty of what lies ahead.
At times like this, self-care becomes even more critical; by taking care of ourselves, we are better able to take care of those who depend on us! The Women’s Drum Center has designed a virtual wellness series to provide ideas and tools for self-care and self-celebration. We need to remember that we are resilient, we are creative, we are strong! By coming together in community, we bolster our immune systems, validate our strength, and reinforce the resilience that will carry us through.
The series will include 6 virtual sessions; registrants can subscribe to the whole series or choose individual workshops. Each session will begin with grounding and end with a meditation on gratitude.
September 12th, 10:00 - 11:30: Rhythms of Wellness Kick off Meeting. We will ensure that everyone is comfortable with Zoom and understands how to comfortably use the technology. We will introduce the presenters and explain the tools and gifts that will be sent to each participant so that they have the items they will need to fully participate.
September 26th, 9:30 - 11:00: Beginning SomaYoga presented by Sandra Pierce. SomaYoga is a method that focuses on re-education of the muscles in order to change long-held patterns which may be holding you back from optimal mobility. If you think you cannot “do yoga”-- we invite you to give this style a try.
October 10th, 10:00 - 12:00 Holistic Practices presented by Kate Gustafson. Learn about the ancient healing science of Ayurveda. Explore food as medicine, and the importance of how understanding the rhythms of nature (inside and out) can help us to better understand ourselves.
October 24th, 10:00 - 12:00: Guided Drum Centering Ritual. Alex Connett will lead a guided drum centering ritual using frame drums. Frame drums are among the oldest percussion instruments in the world. She will continue the discussion of how rhythm plays an important role in our lives and can be experienced through drumming, mindful eating, and connecting with nature.
November 7th, 10:00 - 12:00: Exploring Emotion and Energy with the Elements. Helen Buron will be presenting the fifth session – she will guide an exploration and creative ceremony with the elements (air, fire, water, earth), emotions, and energy using meditation, guided visualization, breathwork, and intention setting. No meditation or ceremony experience necessary and all beliefs welcome.
November 21st, 10:00 - 11:30: Gratitude and Reflection. The final session will focus on gratitude and tying together the concepts explored in the previous sessions. A panel and group discussion will complete this journey into the Rhythms of Wellness.
Registration for the whole series is $150. Individual sessions will be $40 each. All sessions will be recorded and made available for participants within 3 days of the session.
